The addition of up to 15% of metakaolin to concrete will increase its sulphate resistance in a sodium
sulphate solution. Trials in sulphate containing waters showed the same effect. This is probably due
to the lowering in calcium hydroxide in the pore solution and a lower formation of expansive ettringite.
