Reaction with cement and lime
Portland cement consists of about 80% calcium silicates:
alite (C
3S) and
belite (C
2S)
These will react with water according to the following reactions.
C
3S + 3H = CSH + 2 CH
C
2S + 2H = CSH + CH
The final structure consists of about 75%
calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) and 25% hydrated lime (CH).
The hydrated lime (CH) also called
calcium hydroxide or Portlandite will react with pozzolana, forming
more CSH-phases:
CH + S -> CSH gel-like structures
CH + S + A -> C
